Ty Hunter Nordstrom earned his angel wings on the morning of November 13, 2009, in his home in Abilene, Texas at the age of six years old. His final days were spent surrounded by his loving family--his mother Toni, father Lyle and little brother Aiden.
Ty's life was too short, but those who met him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quality of time in which one lives. His smile lit up every room he entered, his eyes danced with joy. He was a true loving soul, mature beyond his years. He loved and lived with his whole heart.
Although Ty's illness made him appear frail at time, he possessed strength, perseverance and courage that left people in awe. The people who know him were inspired by him to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. He could, and did, spend hours fishing on boats, on riverbanks, on beaches and piers, with a patience and enjoyment few adults could match. He participated in three fishing competitions, two with Make A Wish and one with Catch A Special Thrill. He even hauled in a catfish that was almost as big as he was.
His favorite color was yellow, from the time he was two years old. He loved Bakugan and bugs and reptiles--all the things to make his mother cringe! In fact, when Lyle was deployed, it was four year old Ty who was catching spiders in the Nordstrom home!
With Ty's passing we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated. We feel blessed that we were allowed the honor of being his parents. We are so thankful that Aiden knew his big brother so that he will always have those memories of his gentle and mischievous spirit. Ty was so extraordinarily special, so sweet and loving that this world just wasn't able to hold him. He is an angel now.
Tye is survived by his loving parents, Lyle Richard Nordstrom and Toni Marie Nordstrom, brother Aiden James Nordstrom; paternal grandparents Richard and Patricia Nordstrom of Iron River, Michigan; maternal grandparents Anthony and Shirlee Peplinski of Hustisford, Wisconsin; aunts and uncles Angie and Joe Thibault; Melissa and Brandon Zimmerman; Tammy and Jeff Benda; Bob and Christina Nordstrom and several cousins.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Holy Family Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 pm, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm, on Monday, November 16 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
