Travis Lee Swinney, 84, of Abilene, passed away on October 4, 2023 in Abilene, TX.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday October 5, 2023 at Hamil Family Funeral Home 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, TX.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday October 6, 2023 at Hamil Family Funeral Home 6449 Buffalo Gap Road with the Rev. Larry Baird of Abundant Life Apostolic Ministries & Dwayne Staggs, officiating. Burial will follow at White Church Cemetery. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Travis was born in Mulberry Canyon, Texas to Roy Lee "Pete" Swinney & Eva "Elsie" Riggan Swinney on May 13, 1939. He loved to say he was born on a dark stormy Friday the 13th and then laugh because it was a Saturday. He went to school in Merkel, TX and graduated from Merkel High School. He served as an MP in the United States Army. He worked as a highway sign maker for the Texas Highway Department for many years until his retirement. Travis married Carolyn Ann Travis Staggs on August 28, 1979. They were soulmates who joined 2 families together for 44 years of beautiful memories.
Travis was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James Swinney & his daughter Mary Roeder.
Travis is survived by his wife Carolyn Swinney; his children, Sherry Roeder(Craig), Yvonne Peterson(Rick), Dwayne Staggs(Alischa) and Tommy Staggs(Lori); sister, Wanda Bewley; grandchildren, Zachary Catledge, Renee Gibson(Rick), Sarah Garrison(Jeff), Tracy Matthews(Eric), Corrie Gillham(Dustin), Nathan Staggs(Dara), Ashley Staggs(Charles), Jessica Peterson, Shyanne Peterson and Brad Peterson; and 16 great-grandchildren, and many loved family members.
Pallbearers will be Pawpaw's Grandkids.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Hendrick Hospice of Abilene.
