Tommy Martin Dupree

Tommy Martin Dupree, 87, died Sunday, July 12, 2009, at an Abilene nursing center. The son of the late Lela Irene (Gannaway) and Rochelle Callaway Dupree, Tommy was born on February 15, 1922 in Wingate, Texas, and was a lifelong resident of Abilene, having attended Abilene High School. During World War II, he served in the South Pacific and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a truck driver for Fraley's Butane for 33 years. Tommy married Mildred Copeland on June 1, 1946 in View, Texas. He was a member of Elmwood Baptist Church in Abilene. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Copeland Dupree of Abilene; son, Gary Dupree and wife, Ruby, of Abilene; daughter, Neda Troutman of Austin; four grandchildren, Thomas, Dwayne, Brad and Jennifer; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Elmwood Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Tobey officiating. Interment will follow in Hawley Cemetery directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 2555 Grape St., Abilene, TX 79601.
