Tommie Grace (Hitt) Collum, 85, died Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at an Abilene medical center. Born in Haskell, Texas on September 10, 1924, Tommie was the daughter of Verla Grace (Grinstead) and James Thomas Hitt. Since 1944, she had been a resident of Abilene where she married Raymond O'Dell Collum on June 9, 1945. She worked as a beautician, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Abilene. Tommie was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, on June 17, 1994; son, Tommy Ray Collum, on March 6, 1989; parents; and two brothers, Carl Hitt and Clarence Hitt. Survivors include two sisters, Mary Ellen Smith of Wichita Falls, and Eva Jaunell Irvin and husband Alton of Abilene; three nieces and husbands, Carla Casteel and Bill, Karen Renee Allred and Dick; Riva Johnson and Ron; and two nephews and wives, Kenneth Irvin and Loyce, and Larry Irvin and Kloyece. Services were held on Saturday, September 4, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, officiated by Rev. Michael Reed. Interment was in Elmwood Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 1165 Minter Lane, Abilene, TX 79603.
