Thomas E. "Tommy" Nelson, 74, died Saturday, October 23, 2010, at an Abilene medical center.
Born in Coleman County, Texas on April 21, 1936, Tommy was the son of the late Winnie (Collins) and Edward Leon Nelson. Since 1955, he had been a resident of Abilene, where he married Lynda Means on June 22, 1958.
Tommy served in the U. S. Marine Corps. During his working career, he worked for Lockheed-Martin/General Dynamics as an inspection specialist and Automation Industries, in the oilfield, and as a truck driver.
Tommy was a member of Broadview Baptist Church in Abilene. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 559 where he served as secretary. He was also very active in several other Masonic Bodies
Tommy is survived by his wife, Lynda Means Nelson of Abilene; daughters, Tommye Lynn Marshall and Tammy Nelson both of Abilene; two grandchildren, Tony Marshall and Tiffany Hackworth and husband Kent; and three great-grandchildren, Devin Marshall, Jesse Hackworth and Jaden Hackworth. Survivors also include two brothers, Gene Nelson and wife Kathy of Joshua, Texas, and Marvin Nelson of Mesquite, Texas; two sisters, Billie Baker and husband Bill of Coleman County, Texas, and Margie Roberts of Yemassee, South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, with Rev. David Cason officiating. Entombment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
