Thelma Rees, 96, died Monday, December 16, 2013 at an Abilene nursing home.
Born in Big Spring, Texas on October 2, 1917, she was the daughter of Dossie (Allen) and Walter Allen King. She was a 1935 graduate of Westbrook High School and married Samuel Kesten Rees on December 22, 1939 in Westbrook, Texas.
Mrs. Rees was a seamstress at S & Q Clothiers, and also worked at Barnes & Williams Pharmacy. She was a member of Elmwood West United Methodist Church and the Prospectors Sunday School Class. She and her husband were very active and enjoyed being involved in the Coachman Caravan Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Kesten Rees in January 1992; her parents; two brothers, Guy King and Malvin King; and son-in-law, Bill Davis.
Mrs. Rees is survived by her daughter, Darlene McCaskill and her husband, Ronald, of Abilene.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, at Elmwood West United Methodist Church in Abilene directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Rev. Ryan Strebeck and Rev. Jeanie Williams will officiate. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
