Terry Glenn Rucker, 62, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 in an Abilene medical center.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain Mike Patrick and Rev. Donny Harbers officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy. 277 South.
Terry was born on August 23, 1950, in Abilene, Texas to parents Glenn and Margaret Rucker. He graduated from Cooper High School in 1968 and from South West Texas University in San Marcos in 1973.
Terry was married to Kim Mikeman on September 8, 1979. They had two daughters, Tara Marie Rucker and Tamara Beth Rucker.
Terry had long careers with Weyerhauser Forestry and Boise Cascade Forestry companies. During his life, Terry had the opportunity to help others through mission work in Australia, Spain, Brazil and Honduras. He also coached softball and volunteered as a church bus driver and Sunday School teacher. He was a member and deacon at Elmdale Baptist Church. Terry was admired for his kindness, generosity and dedication to helping others.
Terry was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Rucker, and grandparents, Fred and Jessie Rucker and Clarence and Blanche Routh. He is survived by his children, Tara Marie Rucker of Washington, D.C. and Tamara Beth Powell and her husband, Nicholas Powell, of Alameda, CA; his mother, Margaret Routh Rucker, of Abilene; and his sister, Melanie McMinn and her husband, Clyde McMinn, of Abilene. Terry was blessed with his first grandchild, Sierra Clementine Powell, on February 27, 2012, and loved spending time with her.
