Teddy Byrd

Teddy Urban Byrd, 83, of Buffalo Gap, passed away Friday, September 8, 2023. He was born in a leap year, on February 29, 1940, in Stith to Sarah (Hassey) and Alvin Byrd.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 13 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd.

Teddy graduated from Merkel High School. He married his wife, Merry Ann (Mize) Byrd, on May 27, 1994, in Merkel. Teddy worked for Universal Propane and H.W. Lemens Propane. He also worked for Leon Harrell training racehorses, as well as Taylor County, Joe Moore Pipeline, and Terry Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jerry Byrd, sister Merle Holloway, sister Daphna Whatley, sister Sue Jones, and sister Jean Irvin.

Teddy is survived by his wife Merry Ann Byrd, son Teddy Byrd, Jr. and wife Novella, daughter Robin Evans and husband Adam, daughter Audy Jackson and husband Nickey, daughter MeloDee Byrd, daughter Merrilee Barela and husband Steve, daughter Kathleen New and husband Author, sister Joan Neill, and 14 grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
