T.C. Campbell, born in Abilene, died on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at the age of 93. He lived in Abilene all of his life and spent his best energies in the business and cultural life of the city.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Guinn Campbell; his daughter Sarah Campbell and her husband Charles Webb; his granddaughters, Emily Palit and her husband Tapash Palit, M.D., and Jody Chang and her husband Curtis Chang; great-granddaughters, Mei-Mei and Ellie Chang, and Phoebe and Maya Palit; and his nephew, William Clinton Bahan. T.C. was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Charles J. Campbell, and his sister, Blanche C. Bahan.
T.C. was born in 1913 and was educated in the Abilene schools. He graduated from the Rice Institute in 1934. T.C. was always proud of his alma mater and founded the Campbell Lecture Series in 2005 with a $1 million endowment. He married Clara Guinn in 1938; they celebrated their 68th anniversary in June. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest for over 70 years and had served as finance chairman of the building committee for the church building.
T.C. will be remembered for his dedication, his keen intellect and administrative talent. He made successful investments in the banking, real estate, insurance, ranching and investing businesses. He, and his wife, founded the Campbell Foundation in 1978 and were faithful supporters of many cultural, educational and humanitarian projects in Abilene and the surrounding area.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. A memorial service, with Rev. Scott Mayer officiating, will be at 3:00 p.m. on Monday at the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest. C.E. "Sonny" Bentley, the Honorable Judge Raleigh Brown, Scott Dueser, Dr. B.J. Estes, and Brice Fowler will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to: the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, 602 Meander, Abilene, Texas 79602; the Grace Museum, 102 Cypress Street, Abilene, Texas 79601; or to the charity of your choice.
