Sylvia Elaine Renfro, 69, of Abilene, went to be with her Lord and Savior, after a courageous battle with cancer, on October 31, 2009, in her home with her family by her side. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Rev. David Cason of Broadview Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.
Sylvia was born in Jasper, Alabama to William and Marian Knight on October 23, 1940. She attended Abilene High School. Sylvia married Eldon Renfro on May 16, 1959 in Abilene. She was first and foremost a loving wife, mother, grandmother and caregiver for her mother. She was recently retired from the post office at McMurry University. She was passionately involved in Beta Sigma Phi for over 40 years and numerous volunteer organizations. Sylvia was a member of Broadview Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Sylvia is survived by her husband with whom she had just celebrated their 50th anniversary, Eldon Renfro of Abilene; one son, Jeff Renfro and wife Mary of Abilene; two daughters, Dana Renfro Hunt and husband Zach of Arlington, Carla Renfro Lane and husband David of Abilene; six grandchildren, Eric and wife Cindy, Kristopher, Shyann, Emily, Colton and Tori; one great-grandchild, Peyton; one brother, Greg Knight and wife Karla of Hawley; and two nieces, Leigh Knight and Jill Estes and husband Aric.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Eric, Kristopher and Colton; and Tommy Delozier, Joe Matthews and Sam Corbett.
