Sylvia Dickey of Abilene, Texas (formerly of Quemado, Texas) passed away December 23, 2017.

Sylvia Elizabeth Ratcliff was born to Robert Gussie (Gus) and Mamie Elizabeth Elliott Ratcliff in Brownfield, Terry Co., Texas on July 5, 1921. The Ratcliff family moved to Quemado, Maverick Co., Texas in 1934 where they farmed and raised cattle.

Sylvia graduated from Eagle Pass High School, Eagle Pass, Texas in 1939 and attended Texas A & I in Kingsville, Texas.

The Ratcliff family lived in El Monte, California during WWII; Sylvia worked at Douglas Aircraft, Long Beach, California.

Sylvia married Issac Vernon Dickey, January 21, 1945 in Quemado, Texas. They had four children: Robert William, Peggy Elizabeth, Roger Paul and Sammy Ray.

After marriage Sylvia, worked at Kelly Field in San Antonio, at the Eagle Pass Radar Base, then at the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) (Eagle Pass, Texas), US Department of Agriculture. Sylvia retired after 25 years of government service on April 29, 1983. She was an ASCS program assistant at the time of her retirement. Sylvia's government service included employment with the U. S. Air Force, Post Office and USDA.

Sylvia was a dedicated and faithful Christian. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Abilene, Texas. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother who took an active interest in her community and her church. She was a Sunday School teacher in the First Baptist Church Quemado for many years, Cub Scout Leader, helpful neighbor and loyal friend. She loved baking, gardening and flowers.

Sylvia was preceded in death by two sons, Robert William Dickey and Sammy Ray Dickey; husband, Issac Vernon (I V) Dickey; her parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Sylvia is survived by daughter, Peggy Eichner (Ryan) of Abilene, Texas; son, Roger Dickey (Sharon) of Baird, Texas, daughter-in-law, JoAnn Dickey of Graham, Texas; grandchildren: Jennifer Womble (Wade) of Moores Hill, Indiana, Benjamin Dickey of Cedar Park, Texas, Sara Reynolds (Kylan) of Albany, Texas; Issac Dickey (Lacy) of Clyde, Texas; great grandchildren: Brett Womble, Marissa Womble, Laramie Reynolds, and Leggin Reynolds. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends whom she dearly loved.

In lieu of flowers the family requests a contribution to First Baptist Church, 1333 N 3rd St, Abilene, TX 79601; Second Chance Cowboy Church Building Fund, 9457 State Hwy 36 West, Clyde, TX 79510; or your favorite charity.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. The graveside service will be in Quemado Valley Cemetery in Quemado, Maverick Co., Texas on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 12:30 P.M.
