Sybil Jo McLean

Sybil Jo McLean, of Abilene, passed away Friday, November 9, 2007, on her birthday, at the age of 85. Graveside services will be at 10:00 am Monday, November 12 in Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Highway 277 South. Bill Eason will officiate. Friends may pay their respects on Sunday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Sybil was born November 9, 1922, in Jones County to Roy Winter and Bertie Mae (Tabor) Winter. She graduated from Anson High School. Sybil married Garth Dale McLean in Baird, Texas on May 26, 1948. She worked in the United States Treasury Department in Washington, D.C. Sybil also worked as a clerical worker for several years for the Texas Employment Commission. She was an avid golfer and loved playing bridge and tennis with her friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Selma Tyree and Thelma Cooper. Sybil is survived by her husband of 59 years, Garth McLean, of Abilene; one brother, Roy Winter, Jr. and his wife Ruth, of Harlingen; one sister, Geraldine Jackson, of Abilene; and several nieces and nephews. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in honor of Sybil to the donor's favorite charity.
