Svend Orville Mikkelsen (Bill), 82, of Abilene, Texas passed away on September 19th, 2017 in Abilene.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 23 at North Park Baptist Church with Brother Louis Johnson and Brother Danny Willis officiating. Private family burial will be at Drummond Cemetery on Saturday morning. Arrangements are being made by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene
Bill was born in Fresno, California to Edward and Dessie Mikkelsen on April 25, 1935. He married Louise Floyd on January 1, 1957 in San Angelo, Texas. They raised two girls, traveled and Bill Coached and mentored Special Olympians. He received man of the year from Local Special Olympics and was the recipient of awards at the State level for his all-around service. He retired from Sears Roebuck after 25 years.
Bill served in many areas in his church, but his passion was building and grounds.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Dessie Mikkelsen; sister, Johanna Larson; brother, John Mikkelsen and great-grandson, Cole Allen Levrets.
Bill is survived by his wife, Louise Mikkelsen, two daughters, Debra Levrets (Greg) and Laurie Mikkelsen; three grandchildren, Jillian Svend Koslan (Jeff), Wade Levrets, and Reid Levrets (Andrea); and six great-grandchildren, Makaila and Addison Koslan, Kaitlyn Johnson Levrets, Quinn Levrets, Jackson and Rylee Levrets.
Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Levrets, Wade Levrets, Reid Levrets, Jeff Koslan, Dan Dobbs, and Claude Burton.
Memorials may be given to North Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 1525 Anson Ave., Abilene, TX 79601.
