Suzanne "Suzie" Shahan

Suzie Shahan, 69, of Abilene, TX passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023. 

Visitation will be Friday, January 27 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 28 at First Central Presbyterian Church with Dr. Cliff Stewart officiating.  Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Suzie was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Catherine and William R. Childress, Jr. on February 16, 1953.  She graduated from Arlington Heights High School and then Texas Tech University, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.  She married Gary Shahan on August 28, 1976, and they began their life together in Abilene at that time. 

Suzie had a true passion for loving others and spent many years serving on non-profit boards, Wylie PTOs and in her church, Wylie Methodist.  Suzie’s fingerprints can be seen throughout Abilene.  Her smile and laughter will forever be felt by all she served and all who were fortunate to call her friend.

Suzie’s true identity was found in her Savior Jesus Christ.  She was devout in her faith and lived a life that shined Christ’s love for others.  She truly used all the gifts God gave her.  As a 20-year cancer survivor, Suzie mentored and comforted many other cancer patients and family members on their journey.  She was welcomed into Heaven by many who went before her. 

Suzie was preceded in death by her parents. 

She is survived by husband Gary, daughters and sons-in-law Erin and Jesse Moosbrugger, Emily and Will Allison, and Amy and Randy Hinton; grandchildren Grady, Anna Grace, Griffin, Eloise, Millie and Maren; sister Alesia McCreless, brother and sister-in-law Billy and Terry Childress; sister-in-law Gwen Robertson, and several loving nieces and nephews. 

Memorials may be given to Cancer Services Network, Abilene Arts Alliance/Hearts for the Arts, Wylie Bulldogs Education Foundation or Abilene Young Life.
