She went on to earn her degree from Abilene Christian University in 1972. On August 20, 1971, she married David L. Carter in Weatherford, Texas, beginning a partnership of over 53 years.

She was a tireless volunteer, often sponsoring honorary dinners and special projects, earning a reputation as a warm and gifted hostess. She was a wonderful friend to many.
Suzanne found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved home projects, sewing, and tending to her garden. She loved to travel. Her faithful companion, her cat Joey, brought her endless comfort and happiness.
