Sue Grimes Warren died peacefully at her home in Abilene, Texas on Tuesday, October 27, 2015. She was born in Merkel, Texas on October 3, 1925. She graduated from high school in Merkel as valedictorian and attended Texas Tech University. There she was a yearbook favorite and member of Kappa Alpha Theta.
Her marriage to Jerry Warren in 1946 brought together two pioneer families – the Dee Grimeses and Booth Warrens, who were longtime friends and neighbors.
The marriage was blessed with two daughters, Susan and Kay. Sue and Jerry lived their married life in Abilene where they were supportive members of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
They both enjoyed golf, belonging to the country clubs and traveling to many golf resorts.
Sue was a sustainer emeritus of the Junior League of Abilene and a community volunteer. She enjoyed playing bridge with her dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, and daughter, Kay (John) Zinsmeyer of Lakeway, Texas.
Sue is survived by her daughter, Susan and husband Randy of Ovalo, Texas; three grandchildren: Brent Springer, Callie Zinsmeyer and David Zinsmeyer; one niece, Cathy Cleveland; and nephews: Mike Warren, Dee Warren and Pat Warren.
A graveside service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, October 31, in Elmwood Memorial Park - Private Estates, followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
