Sue Elizabeth Wokaty McAlister, 70, of Abilene, passed away on April 5, 2017 in Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be 3:00pm – 5:00pm Sunday April 9th at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas.
Funeral services will be held 11:30am Monday April 10th at First Baptist Church Abilene with Dr. Phil Christopher and C V Blake officiating. Burial will follow at Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 W. Lake Road. Services are under the directions of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Sue was born in Dallas Texas on February 23, 1947 to Virginia May and William May. She attended school in Dallas, and graduated Woodrow Wilson High School in 1965. Sue attended the University of Arkansas where she met her future husband, Jerry McAlister. They were married on November 26, 1966 in the First Baptist Church, Dallas Texas, and had celebrated their 50th anniversary last year. Sue was a wonderful homemaker, and as the children got older began her career working for Hester Real Estate, March of Dimes, Dr. Ron Morley and finally settled in at the Texas Department of Transportation where she retired after 24 years of service. Sue was a "forever friend" to so many of her friends and TXDOT coworkers, cherishing those relationships to the end. Sue was a proud member of the West Texas Harley Owners Group, and served as their "First Lady" a few years ago, enjoying the many rides and trips they took, establishing even more "Forever Friends." Sue was a member of the First Baptist Church in Abilene, and had served in the children's department. The family wishes to thank Dr. Phil Christopher, C. V. Blake and the other FBC members who showed there support throughout Sue's final weeks.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents Virginia Wokaty and Tommy Wokaty, a brother W.J. May, his wife Minnie Jo May, her mother and father in-law Paul McAlister and Evelyn McAlister and an infant grandson Jerry Mac Bass.
Sue is survived by her husband Jerry McAlister, her son Eric McAlister and his wife Heather, daughter Stefanie Bass and her husband Jimmy Bass. She cherished her grandchildren Chelsea Latham, Paul McAlister, Adyson Bass, Austin McAlister, James Bass IV, Jayce Bass, and great granddaughter Lydianna Castillo.
Pallbearers will be Paul McAlister, Austin McAlister, James Bass IV, Jayce Bass, Scott McAlister and Jon McAlister.
