Steve was born on December 18th, 1948 in Fort Worth, Texas to H. Lee and Mabel Smith. The Smith family moved to Abilene in the early 1950’s and Steve graduated from Cooper High School in 1967. He attended Texas Tech University and graduated in 1971.
Steve worked as a CPA for the past 50 years, but those who knew him know his work did not stop there. He was extremely passionate about helping others and spent much of his time generously supporting a number of various ministries around town and beyond, such as Love and Care Ministries, ManUP, FCA, the Emmaus Community and countless others. Many people could say they owe their love of music to Steve. He enjoyed playing the piano and singing and has even been known to write a song or two as he loved entertaining others with his musical gifts. He was a loyal and active member of First Baptist Church and frequently attended University Baptist Church in Fort Worth where his son is the pastor. Nothing made him happier than his precious children and grandchildren. You could often find him traveling to various sporting events and activities to show his support of them. Steve’s love for the Lord was apparent in all he did and the countless lives he touched. His love and generosity knew no bounds. His family and friends would say they were “blessed beyond measure” to have known him.
Steve was a loving husband, devoted father, and supportive brother and friend. He is survived by his wife Dana; his children, Stephanie and Cory Locke, Jerimiah and Jennifer Smith, Jason and Lauren Long, and Jennifer and Charlie Clarke; his siblings, Dolly Gremminger, Debby and Larry Krpec, Sandi Davis, Doug and Jamie Smith, and Sheri Smith; his grandchildren, Christopher and Lucy Locke, James, Annabelle, and David Wu Smith, Isla and Ava Long, and Davis Clarke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, H. Lee and Mabel Smith and his sister Susan Chapman.
