Stanley Horace Klett of View, Texas, passed away very peacefully in Abilene on Saturday, January 7, 2023 with 92 years of experience, which his family celebrated quite often with St. Patrick's Day themed birthday parties.
The son of Lula Mae New and Charles Cecil Klett was born on March 17, 1930, in Menard, Texas. Horace proudly served his country in the Korean war. He married Helen Patricia Ratliff on July 23, 1960 in Abilene and they were married for 52 years until Helen's passing in September of 2012. He had been a resident of View since 1972, but he recently moved to Lyndale Abilene Senior Living for the past five months, where he enjoyed meeting new friends and playing dominoes, especially with the ladies.
Horace only had one job in his entire life, as he worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone as a communications technician for 43 years until he retired in 1993. Horace served on the board of Butterfield School and held many rolls at View Baptist Church as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher.
Horace was involved in several community groups such as the View Volunteer Fire Department, Telephone Pioneers and volunteering at the Expo Center of Taylor County. He enjoyed playing golf, cards and doing jigsaw puzzles. The den at his home was covered with many puzzles that he glued together and hung on the wall.
Horace was an avid Wylie Bulldog fan, attending football, basketball and volleyball games or listening by radio. He would collect lost golf balls on the course and take to Wylie athletic office for golf students.
Horace was preceded in death by his wife, Helen and a grandson, Adam.
Survivors include daughters, Paula and husband Bill Drake of Corpus Christi, and Vicki and husband Ronnie Sconce of Abilene; son Brad Klett of View; two grandchildren, Dylan Klett and Amber Dressler; three great-grandchildren, A.J., Ian and Paige; brother Van Klett of Epps, Louisiana and brother-in-law Bill Warlick of Hawley; and several other relatives.
