Stan Draper, 60, of Abilene, died Monday, January 7, 2008. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services, with Rev. Derrell Patterson officiating, will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 11, in the chapel at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
December 13, 1947, Stan was born in Morristown, Tennessee to Woodroe and Polly (Burchell) Draper. He served his country as a Tech Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Stan retired from the Air Force on March 31, 1987 at Dyess Air Force Base. November 20, 1992 he married Carla Israel in Abilene. After retiring from the Air Force, Stan worked as a security guard at several apartment complexes. He also worked part-time in the Law Library at the Taylor County Jail and did some maintenance work at Brookhollow Christian Church and Wylie Baptist Church. Stan was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Brandon Draper. He is survived by his wife, Carla Draper, of Abilene; two sons, Eric Draper, of Cuero, Texas, and Darrick Draper, of New York City, New York; one step-son, Duane Pruitt and his wife, Sheri of San Angelo; one daughter, Angela Draper, of Abilene; one sister, Sudie Dotson and her husband Herschel, of Morristown, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Kyria, Kody, Kaden, Kamryn and Ashtyn; and two step-grandchildren, James and Kaylee.
