Shirley Charlene Dodd Parmelly, 81, of Tye, Texas, left this earth to go to her Heavenly home on Saturday, December 26, 2020 in Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 29, from 6 pm until 8 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 30 at Elmwood Memorial Park with Ray Thompson officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Shirley was born in Burkburnett, Texas to Cecil and Leola Welch Dodd on January 4, 1939. She went to school in Holliday, Texas graduating from Holliday High School in 1957. She attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene. Shirley married Carrol Dean Parmelly in Holliday, Texas on February 2, 1959. She worked as an office manager at Elmwood Memorial Park for several years before retiring to be a housewife and take care of her granddaughter. Prior to that she worked at Wayne Haynes Motors. Shirley was an avid Texas Rangers fan, she enjoyed reading, working puzzles and spending time with her dog, Paisley, and her 5 cats. She also loved seeing her great-granddaughter and would have loved seeing her great-grandson who was born on December 14.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Carrol Parmelly, on November 20, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Moree, brother-in-law Carlton Moree, and her father and mother-in-law Kleas and Winnie Parmelly.
Shirley is survived by her daughters Annette Parmelly of Tye and Cheryl Parmelly of Abilene; her granddaughter, Kelsey Templeton and husband Kolby of Stamford, Texas; great grandchildren, Kleasy Templeton and Kayson Templeton of Stamford, as well as her sister-in-law Ella Haynes of Abilene and several nieces and nephews.
