Shirley Miller, 84, passed away on July 21, 2016 at Abilene Regional Medical Center, Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, August 2 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas. Memorial services will be held at 9:30am on Wednesday, August 3, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel. Burial of cremains will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 West Lake Road, under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Shirley was born in Springfield, Massachusetts to Dominic and Augusta Palmisano on April 16, 1932. She graduated from Catholic High School one year early and then matriculated at American International College in Springfield. She graduated with bachelor's and master's degrees in education. She taught fourth grade at Sixteen Acres Elementary school for 17 years, and during that time studied towards a Doctorate of Education at UCONN.
She married Ed Miller on May 24, 1968 in Springfield and shortly thereafter moved to Abilene, Texas in support of her military spouse. She fell in love with the high blue skies of West Texas. Early on she was involved in Cub Scouts as a Den Mother and Brownies as a Troop Leader. She was also active in the Officers' Wives' Club at Dyess AFB.
Shirley was preceded by her father, mother, and brother, Donald.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Ed Miller; her son and his wife, Michael and Susan Miller; her daughter and her husband, Diana and Doug Setser; her brother, Richard Palmisano; five grandchildren whom she absolutely adored, Hannah, Sarah and Steven Perry, and Frederick and Anna Setser.
