Shirley M. Jones, 80, of Abilene passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017 in Abilene.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 6th, 2017 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Graveside services will be at 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 7th at Tecumseh Cemetery.
Shirley Marie Nobles was born to Louise Nobles on September 18, 1936. She graduated from Novice High School and McMurry College. Shirley married James Jones in Abilene in August 1959. She taught elementary school for almost 30 years and always loved learning. Shirley's legacy of teaching has passed down to her daughter and granddaughters. She had an enduring strength and never hesitated to tell you how she felt. Yet, she was always appreciative of anything done for her. She was a Mom, Grandmother, dog lover and sports fan. She now has a restored body and a complete mind. Her family and friends miss her laughter, sense of humor and wit. We know we will see her again because she instilled a love of Christ in her children.
Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Nobles, her foster parents, John and Winnie Jordan, and her great-granddaughter, Selah Hope Jowers.
Shirley is survived by her son, Brand Jones and wife Jennifer of Buffalo Gap; her daughter, Nicole Woodard and husband Robert of Waco; five grandchildren, Hannah Jowers and husband Clay of Abilene, Hunter Jones and wife Marloes of Kansas City, Jon Houston Jones of Buffalo Gap, Kade Wright Woodard and Korbyn Collier Woodard, both of Waco; and six great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be given, in lieu of flowers, to Hospice of the Big Country, Attn: Pet Therapy Program, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, Texas 79605.
