Shirley Coleman

March 28, 1959 — April 11, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Coleman, who peacefully left this world surrounded by family on April 11, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Shirley was born on March 28, 1959, in Aberdeen, SD to George & Deloris Schmidt. She attended school in Groton, SD & enjoyed participating in marching band & other school activities.

Throughout her life, she was known for her unwavering love, strength, and hardworking nature. She dedicated 37 years of her life before retiring in 2014 to working hard at 3M, where she made a lasting impact on her colleagues and community. However, Shirley's true joy came from loving and caring for her family and friends. She had a special love for watching her kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play sports, and her laughter and support were always present at their games.

In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed hobbies such as scrapbooking, gardening, traveling and fishing (in her younger years), but her true passion was quilting. She poured her heart and soul into creating beautiful quilts for her loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and love in every stitch.

She was preceded in death by her maternal & paternal grandparents, parents, George & Deloris Schmidt, son Christopher, brothers David & Tim, sister, Darlis, grandson Jayden, nephew, David & Thomas Herr.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Ed Coleman, her loving daughter Brenda (Daryn) Goetz, her cherished sons Daniel McPartland and Michael (Jessica) Krueger, her joyous stepdaughters Kim (Gary) Halfmann and Kassy (Bobbie) Warren, sisters Kim, (Angelo) Duarte, WA, Cora (Steve) Krueger, SD, brother, Darrell (Judy Schmidt), SD, as well as four nieces, three nephews, 13 grandchildren, and two great-children & her beloved dogs, Lily & Bear.

Her memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her.

A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, located at 6649 Buffalo Gap Road. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 16,  2025, at 2:00 pm, with Jeanene Strickland officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Cancer Institute in Shirley's memory.

The family of Shirley wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Hendrick Hospice, including the nurses, doctors, and chaplains, as well as April from REST, for their compassionate care and support during Shirley's final days. Shirley will be dearly missed but forever remembered for the love, kindness, strength and her (super sweet whistle) that she shared with all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she fly high and rest in peace.
