Sharon was born February 2, 1964 in Lubbock, TX., to Freddie (Sandlin) and Gordon Harmon. She graduated from Lake Highlands High School and Texas Tech University. She married Alan Wartes on May 23, 1987 in Hereford, TX. Sharon was the P.E. teacher at St. John's Episcopal School for ten years and impacted many of her students’ lives. After leaving St. John's, Sharon worked as a tennis coach in AISD for fifteen years. Her love for tennis was evident through her years of coaching at Lincoln and Mann Middle Schools, involvement with Abilene High tennis, and participation in USTA. She was actively involved in different aspects of First Baptist Church. Sharon also found great joy in quilting, a pastime she shared with her mother and sister. We will always remember Sharon for her positive attitude, unwavering faith, and her passion for life.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Alan Wartes of Abilene; two daughters, Abbey Wartes of Abilene, and Erin Harris and husband Taylor of Gunter; three siblings, Sandy Sledge and husband David of Midland, Kyle Harmon and wife Sheri of Mansfield, and Kim Harmon of Arlington; her parents, Freddie and Gordon Harmon of Mansfield; one grandson, Boone Harris of Gunter; and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved.
Honorary pallbearers are Sharon's tennis buddies.
