Sharon Leverett Qualls finished her race of life and won on Monday, January 18, 2016 in Abilene. Her joyful spirit, happy laughter, and beautiful singing will be missed by many. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 21, at Southern Hills Church of Christ, with Wayne Walker and Peter MacInnes of Buffalo Gap Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in the Drummond Cemetery.
Sharon was born in Abilene on February 22, 1945 to Vernon and Clarice Leverett. She graduated from Old Glory High School and Hardin Simmons University with a teaching degree. She taught elementary school in Abilene for over 20 years. Sharon married Jack D. Qualls on August 5, 1966.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Billie Clarice Leverett; her father, Vernon Ray Leverett; her second mother, Mary Jo Leverett; her brother, Sandy Leverett; her sister, Clarice Matthews and her brother-in-law, Ronald Matthews; two nephews, Jeff Leverett and Keith McClung; and her mother-in-law, Jennie Qualls.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Jack D. Qualls; her children, Jennie Jo Qualls Talbot, Jackie Vernon Qualls and wife Joellen, and Jesse Ray Qualls; her brother, Jimmy Leverett and wife Joann; her father-in-law, Jack W. Qualls; three granddaughters, Addison Talbot, Sydney and Ava Qualls (all of them her “Sugarplums”); several brothers-and-sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews, and whole slew of great-nieces and nephews that have unanimously voted her “World’s Best Homemade Mac ‘n Cheese Cook.”
Pallbearers will be Franklin Upp, Darrel Stone, Danny Neal, Hank Davis, Ken Dozier and Barry Weaver. Johnny Jennings, Jim Shewmaker, Kenneth Longley, Tommy Holmes and Eddie Chrane will serve as honorary pallbearers.
