Jean Britton Riley (Sara Eugenia Britton) passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at a local hospital. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2006 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Entombment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Jean was born in Ovalo, Texas to Eugenia and Arl Britton. Her grandparents were Susan and A.B. Britton, early Ovalo settlers, whose ranch encompassed "Bald Eagle" and who provided the land for Ovalo High School.
She graduated from Abilene High School and attended McMurry College. She married John (Jack) Riley on December 23, 1945 in Yuma, Arizona, after his release from the Air Force. Jean and Jack lived in the San Francisco area, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Minneapolis and New York, where she enjoyed golf, recording three holes-in-one. Before becoming a full time homemaker, Jean was a store manager for an exclusive woman's store, Joseph Magnins, in San Francisco.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Jean is survived by her husband, Jack of Abilene, and relatives, Jayne and Roy Pointer of Perryton, Texas, Jimmie and Ann Todd of Odessa, Texas, Jane and Ralph Adams of Abilene, Texas and many special friends.
