Sara McDonnal Owen, died Thursday, January 17, 2008 at the age of 87. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 20 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 in the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland.
Sara was born September 23, 1920 in Baltimore, Maryland to William and Etta (Croswell) McDonnal. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in teaching from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland in 1941. She taught at Mahopac High School in Mahopac, New York for 41 years. She also taught in Maryland for 12 years and in New York. She was a member of the New York State United Teachers. In 2002, at the age of 82, she retired as the oldest teacher in the state of New York. Sara moved to Abilene from New York in 2006. She was a Methodist.
Preceding Sara in death were her parents and one sister, Margaret McDonnal. She is survived by one son, Robert M. Owen, of Corinth, Texas, formerly of Abilene; one daughter-in-law, Inmaculada Frontoba, also of Corinth; three grandchildren, David F. Owen and his wife J.Lynne, Daniel F. Owen, and Diana E. Owen.
