Sandra J. Mattingly, 77, of Abilene, passed away on March 18, 2010 after an extended bout of courageously fending off the many afflictions of her cancer.
Visitation will be 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 on Monday, March 22, 2010 at Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Sandra was born on January 20, 1933 to I.F. (Doc) and Eleanor Johnson in Gatesville, Texas.
She graduated from Austin High School and attended the University of Texas in Austin until meeting and marrying her husband Lt. Guy L. Mattingly Jr. from Fort Hood. They were married and spent the next 20 years traveling and raising a family in the U.S. Army with two separate assignments to Germany (where 3 of her 5 children were born) and the remainder in various states until their last duty station in Abilene where they retired from the military and decided to make home.
Sandra was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker from 1966 to 2010. Her decorative home, care and love for animals, flair for cooking, generosity, friendly humorous and lighthearted personality, and love for family and friends will leave a cherished void for those who knew her.
