Sandra Spangler Martin

1948 — August 8, 2018

Sandra Spangler Martin, 70, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at home in Abilene after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was born May 22, 1948 in Uvalde, Texas. Her parents were Charles and Mary Lou Spangler.

She graduated from La Pryor High School and Texas A&I University, and she received a Masters degree from Sul Ross University. She taught school for 30 years in several school districts, including Wylie and Clyde.

Sandy was an active volunteer with Hendrick Hospice for over 23 years and was a past member of Southwest Rotary Club. She was an active participant in the Emmaus Community and a past President of Aldersgate United Methodist Women. She served as a Stephen Minister at First Central Presbyterian Church. Sandy loved history and genealogy, and she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  She was an active gardener.

She is survived by her husband Carl Martin, two sons, Chuck Bryant and wife Amy and Clay Bryant and wife Kristi, four grandchildren, six stepchildren, and numerous step-grandchildren.

Sandy cherished and was grateful for the many friends who supported her throughout her life and especially during her illness.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00PM Sunday, August 12, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.  Graveside services will be at 9:00AM Monday, August 13, at Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, followed by a memorial service at 11:00AM at First Central Presbyterian Church, 400 Orange Street in downtown Abilene.     

Her desire is for people to wear bright colors to her service.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
