Samuel Allen Walker, 87, of Buffalo Gap passed away on April 15, 2016 in Abilene, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Buffalo Gap Church of Christ with minister Kerry Jones officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Sam Walker was born in Uvalde, Texas to Maurice Evan Walker and Tempie Carter Walker on November 3, 1928. He went to school in Uvalde, graduated from Uvalde High School, and attended Southwest Texas Junior College Uvalde Campus. He married Eleanor Gladine Shaw on June 10, 1949. Sam retired from the Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation in May 1987 after 38 years. After Eleanor’s death, he married Crystel Greenawalt on September 8, 2001. In addition to his parents and first wife, Sam was preceded in death by his sisters Jo Ann Walker and Elizabeth Nell Walker Rankin, brother Jack Walker, and an infant grandson Samuel Walker. Sam is survived by wife Crystel, his sons Stan Walker and wife Eileen of Midland, NC and Greg Walker and wife Bonnie of Magnolia, TX, stepsons Charles and Richard Greenawalt, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother Edward Walker of Bartlesville, OK, a large extended family, and a host of friends. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big Country in Abilene, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice. The family of Sam Walker wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Baig and nursing staff at Abilene Regional Medical Center and Hospice of the Big Country.
