Sam Baron, 73, died Friday, October 19, 2007 at his home. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 pm on Tuesday, October 23 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Services will be at 3:00 pm on Wednesday at the Tabernacle in the Alameda Cemetery in Eastland County, Texas. July 12, 1934, Sam was born to Ventura Ojeda and Delia (Hernandez) Ojeda in Oxnard, California. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Sam graduated from Mount San Antonio College in 1969 as a Registered Nurse. While living in California, Sam worked as a Registered Nurse for the state of California for 20 years. May 8, 1982, he married Theo Scott in Houston, Texas. Sam and Theo lived and worked in Houston and in Abilene during their married life of 25 years. While living in Houston, Sam worked in a VA Hospital for eight years. He also worked in various psychiatric hospitals in southwest Houston and at the Richmond State School for eight years. In July of 1996, Sam moved to Abilene from Houston. He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Abilene. Sam was a loving and devoted father. He was very proud of his children's accomplishments. His brother and sisters were always close, and he loved them dearly. Sam took great pride in his home(s) and enjoyed his hobby of landscaping. He was a devoted and caring nurse and devoted 40 years of his life to serving others in their time of need. Sam had a large and extended family and nothing pleased him more than being with them. When he was well, Sam enjoyed his church fellowship and he sang special music at frequent intervals. Preceding Sam in death were his parents, and one sister, Micki Torres of Palmdale, California. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Theo Baron, of Abilene, Texas; one daughter, Sonia Baron of Sacramento, California; two sons, Samuel Anthony Baron and wife Carrie, of Midland, Texas, and Gregory Baron and wife Sylvia, of Paradise, California; one step-son, Gary Scott of Houston; one step-daughter, Debbie McConnell of Atlantic, Iowa; one brother, Reuben Ojeda of College Park, Washington; two sisters, Mary Lou Moore, of Los Angeles California, and Helen Gregorieff, also of Los Angeles; twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Gary Scott of Houston, Texas, Chad Schuller and Chase Baron, both of Kingsbay, Georgia, Blake Baron of Tucson, Arizona, Paige Baize of Clyde, Texas and Dallas Scott of Sugarland, Texas will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Elders of the Abilene Seventh Day Adventist Church. Memorial donations may be made in honor of Sam Baron to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory Street, Abilene, Texas 79601, Parkinson's Disease Foundation, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018; or to the donor's favorite charity.
