Sam Albro, 69, of Abilene, was born September 9, 1941 to Slim and Rosalie (Berryman) Albro in Winters, Texas. He graduated from Winters High School in 1960, attended Texas Tech University, and was a butcher for Safeway grocery stores for over 30 years, during which time he amassed countless life-long friends. Sam has been a resident of Abilene for over 45 years and married Shirley Patrick Bruton on September 10, 1981. Sam enjoyed huntin, fishing, golf and high school sports, but his greatest passion in life was his three grandchildren. Sam "Paw Paw" dearly loved them and would boast and tell stories about them to anyone lending an ear. Sam will always be remembered by all as a wonderful story teller, his great sense of humor, and his passion for life in general. Sam would always make personal sacrifices to assist others in need, and was always there for his family and friends. He will be forever missed and never replaced!
Sam fought a courageous battle against multiple health issues, and ultimately died Sunday, May 29, 2011 at a local hospital. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joe Frank Albro. Sam is survived by his wife, Shirley Albro of Abilene; two step-sons, Dr.'s Patrick Bruton and his wife Shelley, and Don Bruton, all of Abilene, three grandchildren, Annabel Bruton, Connor "Little Big Man" Bruton, and Lauren Bruton; as well as numerous other family and friends.
Memorials may be made in Sam's honor to The Shriners Children Hospital.
