Sam Charles Hanley, 83, passed away on November 16, 2019 in Tuscola, TX.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 Monday, November 25, 2019 at Texas Veterans Cemetery in Abilene. Chaplain Potts from Dyess AFB will preside. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Sam was born in Longview, Texas, to Charles and Waldine Hanley on November 7, 1936. He graduated
from Hardin Simmons University with a BBA in Accounting.
He married Joan (Jo) Niesen on October 14, 1960 in Wichita Falls, TX.
He served 23 1/2 years in the USAF as a flight engineer on the Hercules C-130 where he served in the Vietnam War and was awarded numerous awards and medals. After retiring from the military, he went on to pursue a career in education as Chair of the Computer Science Department at TSTC Abilene Extension.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Waldine Hanley, sister Rosalee Dejmal and grandson Cody Levens.
Sam is survived by wife, Jo Hanley, of Tuscola; daughters, Carla Levens and Shannon Young of Abilene and Tara Hanley and husband, Steve Barnes of Granbury; son, Scott Hanley, of Abilene; sister, Linda McCollum and husband Robert of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Christopher Levens of Stamford, Chase Hanley and fiancé Laura Lake of Roanoke, Amanda Gloyd, and husband, Travis, of Hawley, and Dustin Young and wife, Taylor, of Abilene; and seven great-grandchildren, two of which were blessed to have had Ampa in their lives longer and brought extra light and love to his world , Nikki and Carlee Levens. Uncle Sam to numerous neices and nephews.
Pallbearers will be the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.
