Sally Dunigan, of Abilene, died Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the age of 96. Entombment will be held 1:00 pm. at Elmwood Mausoleum on Friday, January 2, 2009 followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Rev. Laird Cross will officiate.
She was born August 12, 1912, the fifth child of J.W. and Dora Kennedy—a pioneer, ranch family. Sally had four brothers: Jack, Ove, Parker and William, and one sister, Inez. She was preceded in death by all of her family.
Sally graduated from Rotan High School and attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. She married Hue Montgomery, who died in 1948. She moved to Sweetwater and Abilene, where she met and married James B. Dunigan. Sally did not have children, but she was a devoted wife; a step-mother to Pat, Sue and Bill Dunigan; grandmother to Mike, Andy and Brian Dunigan, and beloved aunt to Jack and Virginia Kennedy, Barbara and Beverly Smith, Betty and Tennie Kennedy, and Joe Kennedy. She is also survived by Josie Robinson, her friend and her caretaker for the past 10 years. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Sally lived life to the fullest and brought great happiness to her family and friends.
