Ruth Key

Ruth Key Ruth Key, 95, formerly of Potosi, died Monday, July 2, 2012 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Potosi Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Potosi Cemetery. Charles Dunnam will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, Texas. Born in Springfield, Missouri on March 8, 1917, Ruth was the daughter of Alcie (Jones) and Malcolm T. Armstrong. She married Pierce C. Key on June 23, 1937 in Dayton, Texas. Ruth and Pierce came to the Potosi Community in 1972 after retirement in Louisiana. Ruth was an active member of her church, Potosi Methodist Church. They were both active with the grandchildren and the Horse Clubs. They were known to the kids in the Horse Clubs as "Nanny and Papa". Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Pierce Key, October 1, 1992; daughter, Sandra Merchant, March 30, 2008; and son-in-law, Sid Merchant, April 12, 2009. Survivors include one son, Pierce Key, Jr. and wife Emily of College Station, Texas; granddaughters, Rebecca Halvorson and husband Wayne of Guthrie, OK, Renee Merchant of Cleburne, TX, and Kelli Key of Bedford, TX; grandson, Kody Key and wife Kayla of College Station; great-granddaughters, Natalie Weems and Lauren Halvorson; and great-grandsons, Luke Weems, Austin Halvorson, Calyn Halvorson and Kolton Key. Pallbearers will be Rebecca Halvorson, Renee Merchant, Kelli Key, Kody Key, Lauren Halvorson, Austin Halvorson, Calyn Halvorson and Kolton Key. Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
