Ruth Inez Davis, of Abilene, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at the age of 90. Viewing and visitation will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., today, Thursday, February 7, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Poteet, Texas. Burial will follow in the Rutledge Cemetery, in Poteet. Viewing and visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, Texas. Time of funeral service on Sunday has not been set at this time.
Ruth was born December 15, 1917 in Amphion, Texas to Thomas Emmitt Franklin and Fannie Evelyn (Barrow) Franklin. She graduated, from what was then Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, with her Masters Degree in Education. She was a school teacher and principal in the Poteet Independent School District. Ruth moved to Abilene in July of 1997 to be near her daughter. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Poteet, Texas.
Preceding Ruth in death were her parents, three brothers, her husband, Burton Elijah Howard, who was killed while serving in the United States Army, and one son, Robert Franklin Davis. She is survived by her daughter, Merry Sue Stephens and her husband, Joseph Walter Stephens, III, of Abilene; her daughter-in-law, Linda Susan Davis; and three grandchildren, Bradley Scott Stephens, Lisa Susanne Davis, and Loni Elaine Davis.
Memorials may be made in honor of Ruth Davis to the First United Methodist Church in Poteet, Texas or to the Abilene Community Band.
