Ruth Ellen Collins, 89, died Saturday, March 21, 2015 at an Abilene medical center.
Born in Carbon, Texas on September 27, 1925, Ruth was the daughter of Millie M. (Mangum) and James Turner Peel. She graduated from Corbon High School and was married to LaFoy Collins, Jr. on June 26, 1943. She was a homemaker. She worked as manager of the Gold Bond Stamp Store in Kermit, Texas and worked at Sears Men’s wear.
In 1978 she moved from Odessa, Texas to Abilene. Ruth was a member of Eula Baptist Church.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three brothers, and one grandson.
Survivors include her son, James LaFoy Collins of Haltom City, Texas; daughter, Barbara Ely and husband James of Eula, Texas; four grandchildren, Sherry, Lori, Kenneth and Jamie; seven great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 27, in Kermit Cemetery at Kermit, Texas with Bob Karlin of Eula Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
