Putting pen to paper to describe the life and death of Ruth Ann Choate is a difficult task only because of a profound sense of loss, sadness and grief, but none of that was a part of her and who she was. Ruthie lived her life with beauty, dignity, grace, love and kindness, and so too did she pass from this life to the next on Monday, August 18, 2014, in the presence and love of her family.
Ruthie’s long struggle with health issues arising as a result of complications from a liver transplant did not, in any way, define her. Rather, she lived and loved and laughed, without complaint, and taught us how to live and die – unafraid and with few regrets. She loved and was much loved by her husband, Tom Choate; her son, Christopher Choate of Durango, Colorado, and his wife, Jill, and children, Sam and Claire; her son Matthew Choate of Abilene, Texas, and wife Tracy, and children, Gage, Rance and Zane; and one sister Paula Ray, a resident of Disability Resources, Inc., in Abilene.
During frequent hospital stays at Baylor University Medical Center, Ruthie touched the lives of many doctors, nurses, and other care givers, many of whom have expressed their genuine love and admiration. Although she would never have claimed nor aspired to the role, she was truly inspirational, and dealt with all persons with kindness and sincerity. Ruthie was a wonderful wife, a great mom and the proudest grandmother ever. She will be missed greatly, but we take comfort in knowing she is at peace and without pain or fatigue.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, on Friday, August 22, 2014, at Heavenly Rest Episcopal Church, 602 Meander, Abilene, Texas, followed by interment in the Columbarium of Heavenly Rest Episcopal Church.
Memorials should be made to the Capital Building Campaign at Heavenly Rest Episcopal Church.
