Pauline Rains, age 82 of Abilene, Texas passed away on January 18, 2019. She was born to the late Henry Carl Caswell and Mamie Beauchamp Caswell on December 3, 1936 in Loraine, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday, January 20, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
To celebrate her life, Chris McCurley of Oldham Lane Church of Christ will conduct a funeral service at The Hamil Family Funeral Home at 10:00 am on Monday, January 21, 2019, followed by a private family burial in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Pauline married the love of her life, Elbert (Bert) Rains, Jr. on December 2, 1955.
Pauline retired from USDA Cotton Classing Division as a seasonal employee after 33 years of service. She was recognized for her years of service in a ceremony held in Memphis, Tennessee.
She was a member of the Oldham Lane Church of Christ. Pauline was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished her family and the times when all could be together.
She was preceded in death by a grandson Landon Reilly Rains, a brother Richard Caswell and sisters Dorothy Pleasant and Carroll Richardson.
Pallbearers will be Garry Pierce, Keith Rains, Michael Rains, Ryland Rains, Steven Rains, Rick Wessel, Jared Wessel and Debra Wessel.
Pauline will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, daughter and cherished friend. She touched the hearts of many and was a true blessing to all who knew her.
Survivors are her beloved husband of 63 years, Bert Rains, daughter Debra Wessel and husband Rick of Westlake, Texas; sons Michael Rains and wife Regina of Abilene, Texas, Keith Rains and spouse Garry Pierce of Abilene, Steven Rains of Plano; grandchildren Jennifer and Travis Haskin of Westlake, Jared and Erin Wessel of Trophy Club, Talia Rains of Lubbock, Lyra and Ryland Rains of Abilene, Maya and Emma Rains of Plano; great-grandchildren Holden and Harper Haskin of Westlake, Rhett Wessel of Trophy Club; sisters-in-law Deanna Slater of Graham and Linda Caswell of Lufkin, brother-in-law Lyndell and wife Ina Rains of Abilene; and several nieces and nephews.
We wish to thank the family of Dolores and the late Bill Flatt for their lifelong friendship and Dr. Victor Hudman for his many years of medical care. The family would like to express their profound gratitude to the staff members at Hendrick Hospice for their compassion and care for our loved one.
