Ruby Caldwell Kinard died Thursday, January 2, 2014 at her residence with her daughter by her side. She was born March 3, 1928 in South Taylor County to the late W.Z. and Alvora (West) Williams. Ruby attended Hardin-Simmons University and, while she loved to travel, lived in Abilene most of her life. She married James Caldwell in 1950 and he preceded her in death in 1997. From the marriage to James Caldwell she is survived by a daughter, RuthAnn Caldwell-Rhodes, her husband William Rhodes and grandchildren Jamie Caldwell-Rhodes and Stephen Rhodes. She is also survived by her son, Father Michael Caldwell and his wife Dawn. Also surviving Ruby is her sister, Betty Marsh of Abilene, and nephew, Kenneth Bryan and his wife Jane and family.
During her marriage to James Caldwell they established Caldwell Music Company and Caldwell Products in Abilene.
In 1998 she married Cearley Kinard; and is survived by his son, Jim Kinard and family, and his daughter, Janet Heyne, her husband Fred and family, and six great-grandchildren.
Ruby was a charter member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, the Abilene Ninety-Nines, an association of women pilots, and served on numerous boards in Abilene.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 10, 2014 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with The Reverend Mary Glover, The Reverend Jim Smart, The Reverend Art Goolsbee and The Reverend Michael Caldwell officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 9, 2014 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
