Roy Herman Spykes, age 82, of Abilene, died Friday, July 22, 2005 at Abilene Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 25th, @ 10:00 a.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. Burial will be Monday afternoon, July 25th at 6:00 p.m. at the Forest Grove Cemetery in Telephone, Texas.
Roy Herman Spykes was born on December 19, 1922 in Telephone, Texas to parents Steven Benjamin Spykes and Bina Letha Castleberry Spykes. He married Dorothy Dee Green in Bonham, TX on August 8, 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation machinist during World War II. He worked over twenty-five years for Continental Trailways as a welder and diesel mechanic. Roy was preceded in death by both his parents, three brothers: Ralph Spykes, Howard Puliam and Homer Lee Puliam; and two sisters: Florence Robertson and Lena Spykes.
Roy is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty-one years, Dorothy Spykes, and a son: Roy Don Spykes and wife, Norma all of Abilene. Also one brother: I.W. "Buddy" Spykes of Odessa; two grandchildren and one one great-grandchild.
