Ronnie Mitchell, 72, of Abilene, passed away, Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Per Ronnie’s request, he will be buried in the Ft. Phantom Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Ronnie was born February 16, 1941 in Tye Texas to Louie James and Mary Genease (Dumas) Mitchell. He graduated from Abilene High School and lived most of his life in Abilene. Ronnie married Patricia Brintle on September 18, 1975 in Dallas, Texas.
He was a paint contractor for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors including fishing and hunting. Since his retirement, he was also an avid knife maker of Mitchell Custom Knives and met buddies at the coffee shop most mornings. Ronnie was a Baptist
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jerry Mitchell and James Mitchell. Ronnie is survived by his wife, Patty Mitchell of Abilene; his daughter, Sheila Mayfield and her husband Joe, also of Abilene; one brother, Bill Mitchell and his wife Peggy of Temple; one sister, Linda Morris and her husband Bob of Round Rock; one brother-in-law, Kelly Brintle and his wife Susanna of La Habra Heights, California, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Mitchell, Jr., Billy Mitchell, Jr., Sam Hughes, Gary Hendrix, Russell Mullins and Alan Milne.
