It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved father, Ronald Eugene McCaskill, who left us at the age of 89. In his final moments, he was surrounded by his two sons and their wives.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 20, 2025, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home with Rev. Stephania Gilkey of St. James United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Born on April 21, 1935, in Glendale, California, Ronald (Ron) was the son of Raymond McCaskill and Gladys Watson McCaskill. Ron was a decorated veteran, having served in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1978. He was a navigator on the flight crew of a KC135 refueling tanker, holding the rank of Major, and was awarded the prestigious Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medal for his exemplary service. Prior to retiring from the Airforce, Ron was a teacher and mentor to many, specifically training in high-speed navigation. His dedication and bravery were a testament to his character and commitment to his country.
After retiring from the United States Air Force, Ron earned a BS in Business Administration and an MS in Public Accounting. After obtaining his CPA, he worked as an internal auditor for Abilene ISD. He and his wife , Darlene, were active members of St. James United Methodist Church in Abilene, TX.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Murray McCaskill and Gladys Watson McCaskill, his brother Jerry McCaskill, and his wife Darlene Rees McCaskill. He is survived by his sister Joyce Riggs of Danville, CA, his children: Lynne A. and Lloyd Roberts of Joplin, MO; Ronald S. and Michelle McCaskill of Little Elm, TX; Robert E. and Peggy McCaskill of San Antonio, TX; and his grandchildren, Kristi, Neal, Bradley, Ronnie, Patrick. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, great-grandchildren, and many friends.
One of Ronald's favorite pastimes was talking and sharing stories of his adventures in life. He was a man who enjoyed humor and shared wisdom. His life was marked by his love for his family, passion for cool cars, and his unwavering commitment to his country. He will be deeply missed by all who know him.
