Ronald Gordon Bredemeyer

1942 — August 14, 2015

Ronald (Ron) G. Bredemeyer, 72, was received into the Kingdom of Heaven on Friday, August 14, 2015. Visitation will be held at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road on Sunday, August 16, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. A celebration of Ron’s life will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 17, 2015 at Wylie Methodist Church, 3430 Antilley Road. Ron was born December 9, 1942 in Big Spring, TX to Walter E. and Frances (Bradshaw) Bredemeyer. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1961 and upon completion of his Master’s Degree from Texas Tech University, served his country in the U.S. Air Force. There he was an instructor pilot, achieving the rank of Captain, at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, TX. He married his hometown sweetheart, Brenda K. Gamblin on June 25, 1966. Ron began his civilian career in the transportation industry with Merchants Fast Motor Lines in 1973. In 1981 Ron left Merchants to fulfill a dream of owning his own oil-drilling company and started Morning Star Drilling, but his love and vast knowledge of the transportation industry led him back. Ron became a leading authority in the heavy haul trucking industry and was an expert in transportation maintenance. He then continued a long career with Merchants, Texas Kenworth and Coastal Transport. Ron finally took that expertise and opened Bredemeyer & Associates and became a nationally recognized authority in transportation consulting and litigation support, where he worked until his retirement in 2012. An avid lover of life, he spent his days with family and friends doing what he loved most and learning everything he could about what interested him. Ron enjoyed spending time in the outdoors hunting and fishing. He was a car enthusiast and often restored vintage trucks with his children and grandchildren. His great love was traveling our country’s beautiful landscape in his RV with Brenda by his side. They made new friends at every park they visited, but their “home away from home” became the Buckhorn Lake Resort in Kerrville, where Ron and Brenda spent the majority of their time with dear friends. Ron was most passionate about learning the Word of Christ and sharing God’s message. He loved to lead worship in his home, in Sunday school class, with Big Country Emmaus, and for small Methodist churches around Texas. He wrote regularly to friends and families about his health progression and always closed each letter with a promise that one day he would be “resting in His lap” in the Kingdom of Heaven. A man of dignity and filled with God’s grace, Ron never missed an opportunity to make certain that those he met knew of God’s salvation and the promise of everlasting life. Ron is survived his wife, Brenda of Abilene; his daughter, Kim Bouldin and her husband Brian of Poolville, TX; his son, Kevin and wife Allison of Abilene; four grandsons: Chris Hennesay and wife Chelsey of Springtown, TX, Austin Hennesay of Abilene, and Benjamin and Boone Bredemeyer of Abilene. Also, one sister, Sheila Collier of Brownwood, TX; three great-granddaughters: Blaklee, Kambrynn, and Lakyn; sisters and brothers in law: Helen and David Whitmire of Abilene and Ken and Kathleen Gamblin of Colorado Springs, CO and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by both parents: Walter and Frances Bredemeyer; and one brother, Kenneth Bredemeyer. The family wishes to thank Texas Oncology in Abilene and MD Anderson in Houston, TX as well as the nurses at Abilene Regional Medical Center and Big Country Hospice. In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be sent to Cancer Services Network, 100 Chestnut Ste. 100, Wylie Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
