Roger Alan Smith, 84, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on July 26, 2014 in Weatherford, Texas. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, July 31, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, August 1, at Hillcrest Church of Christ Chapel with Terry Brown and William Eudy officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Roger was born in San Antonio, Texas to Everett and Thelma Smith on March 8, 1930. He went to public school in several small towns in Texas. He graduated from Abilene Christian College. Roger married Yvonne Starnes on October 21, 1950 in Abilene, Texas. He worked for the US Postal Service 30 years. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne, as well as his mother, father and his sister, Jean. Roger is survived by his children: Mark of Albuquerque, Gary of Marble Falls and Scott of Mineral Wells, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with a great many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Kerry Maddocks, Kirk Bryant, Rob Starnes, Jim Bryant, Jeremy Smith and Luke Smith. Memorials may be given to Yellowstone Association or Audubon Society, as well as any church’s mission outreach. The family of Roger wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Holland Lake Nursing Center.
