Rodger Barnard Haglund, M.D.
Rodger Barnard Haglund, M.D., of Abilene, died Thursday, November 8, 2007 at the age of 75. Funeral services, with Rev. Lee Fuller officiating, will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Wylie Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Rodger was born November 5, 1932 in Ludingtonville, New York to Henry and Rebecca (Crist) Haglund. In Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, Rodger married Mildred Dower on April 11, 1959. Rodger graduated from Bucknell University in Pennsylvania and then attended Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1962, Rodger joined the United States Army, where he served until 1972. While in the Army, Rodger attended the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, where he became and practiced as a Pathologist. Also during that time, Rodger served his internship in Fort Knox, Kentucky and his medical residency at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Rodger and his family lived in Dubois, Pennsylvania from 1972 until moving to Hobbs, New Mexico in 1982. In 1984, Rodger moved from Hobbs to Abilene, Texas where he and his wife have lived until present day. Rodger owned and operated the Haglund Clinic, where he practiced Dermatology and Immunology, specializing in allergies. He was a member of the Abilene Rotary Club and Wylie Baptist Church.
Preceding Rodger in death were his parents and one grandson, Bradley Shaneyfelt. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Haglund, of Abilene; one son, Rodger B. Haglund, II and wife Becky of San Diego, California; four daughters, Robyn Zorn and husband Ron, of Syracuse, New York, Diane Shaneyfelt and husband Dave, of Asheville, North Carolina, Penny Haglund, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Judy Moore and husband Malcolm, of Charlottesville, North Carolina; one sister, Joanne Crouse of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren, Jason Carrier, Sarah Carrier Crutchfield, Ryan Moore, Daniel Shaneyfelt, Brienne Shaneyfelt, Zach Nutter, Aaron Zorn and Tyler Zorn. He is also survived by one niece and four nephews.
