Robert Meese Stine was born November 9, 1924 to Irma (Meese) Stine and Ray F. Stine in Brea, California. He was raised and went to school in various communities in Southern California before joining the army shortly after graduation from high school and the outbreak of World War II.
During the war he served with the 32nd Division in the Pacific-Australia, New Guinea, Leyte, Luzon and Japan.
Upon his return to California at the end of the war he entered UCLA where he graduated with a degree in Accounting. He joined Wilshire Oil which later became Monterey Oil and then Humble. He was transferred to Houston in 1961 and then joined Esso Libya in Tripoli where he spent 10 years in the Tax and Comptrollers Departments.
He returned to Exxon in Houston and went on loan to Alyeska Pipeline in Anchorage, Alaska. At the conclusion of the pipeline project he was transferred to Midland and retired from Exxon in 1985.
Robert was an active member of CAF and High Sky Wing and also Life Member of the Santa Rita Club at the Petroleum Museum as well as the Midland Exxon Annuitants Club and Lions Club. He spent many hours as accountant, treasurer or officer of these organizations. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Midland before moving to Abilene where he became a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Profiteers Class. He was a member of RSVP in both Midland and Abilene. Robert also served Meals on Wheels, he was a Mason and former Elk club member.
Surviving is his wife Phyllis of Abilene, daughters; Judy Albee and husband Grant of Whittier, CA., Nancy Paxton of LaHabra, CA., Carol Rogers and husband David of Abilene; son, Randall Stine and wife Joan of Friendswood; his grandchildren, Christopher Albee and wife Keren, Lauren and Sarah Albee, Katy and Tom Paxton, Amanda, Laura, Kimme, Michael and Katie Rogers, Nicholas and Dustin Stine and one great-granddaughter. Robert is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Ray Stine and his son William Stine.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2008 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Kennedy officiating, under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas.
