Robert R. Short, 62, of Seibert, CO, passed away on 24 June, 2016 in Abilene, TX.
A memorial service will be held at Community of Christ Church located at 108 Iowa Ave in Seibert, CO on Saturday, 9 July at 2:00 pm.
He was born in Flagler, CO on 15 December 1953 to Harley and Eleanor (McGriff) Short. He graduated from Hi Plains High School in 1973. He later moved to Scott City, KS where he married Diana (now Wolkensdorfer) on 11 December 1979 and he helped raised her son, Richard France. Robert and Diana had their daughter, Michelle in August of 1980. Robert returned to Seibert, CO in 1993, where he lived until 2013 when his daughter received a humanitarian transfer from the Air Force to help take care of him. Michelle and Robert lived in Colorado Springs from June 2013 until the Air Force transferred her to Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, TX in June 2015.
Robert, or better known as "Slim" or "Uncle Slim" attended a heavy equipment operator and truck driver school in Texas in 1974. He was a semi-truck driver for over 20 years, transporting fuels, fertilizers, grain, cattle, and even buffalo. After becoming medically retired, he became an active member of the Seibert Town Council. Additionally, Robert served as a board member for the Stratton Golf Club, where he also helped with improvements and upkeep of the golf course. He also volunteered with the Seibert Ambulance and Fire Department, assisting with medical and fire responses. Robert enjoyed helping the community of Seibert, and even helped mow at the Community of Christ Church.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Eleanor, and his brother, Dean. Robert is survived by his brother Russell Short of Seibert, CO, his sister Kathy Miller and her husband, Leroy of Sterling, CO, his ex-wife, Diana of Scott City, KS, her son Richard France of Newton, IA, his daughter Michelle and her husband Bradley Laurent of Abilene, TX, and his step-granddaughter, Brianna of Denham Springs, LA.
