Robert Roy Pritchett, 94, of Abilene, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021, in Abilene.
A service honoring Roy’s life will be held 12:30 pm, Thursday, September 9, 2021, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am to service time. A private burial will take place in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.
Roy was born on November 22, 1926, to Gordon and Vera Pritchett in Matador, Texas. He attended Abilene High School then served his country by joining the U.S. Navy, participating in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres. He remained in the Naval Reserve, retiring after 27 years as a Chief Petty Officer.
Roy married Wancele Young on November 22, 1946, and was married for 74 years and 10 months. They had one son, Gary Brooks. Roy was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., retiring after 41 years as a service manager working in Abilene, Odessa, Midland and Corpus Christi. He is a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
Roy loved boating, entertaining friends at Lake Cisco, golfing with all his golf buddies, and most of all play with his little Pekinese dog Honey-B.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Glenna, Ruth, and Nell; two brothers, Gordon and Pete.
Roy is survived by his wife Wancele; son, Gary Brooks and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made in Roy’s honor to the donor’s favorite charity.
